Ludum Dare 46 - Approaching the finish line
The idea for the game is simple: skip across the lake for as long as you can, while scrolling across a procedural landscape. The hope was to make a calming and chill game that anyone who ever skipped stones as a child (or adult) would instantly understand. We also felt like this was a scope that we (as a team of people with families and obligations) could achieve within the time limit: one button controls, really clear interactions and tight scope.
This is the second game that we've released with the quadplay engine, a simple engine made by teammate Morgan McGuire for projects like this. The limited resolution and quick iteration cycle helps with game jams, making it easy to get some up and going without being limited by token counts or fixed palettes.
Also, it turns out that the real life physics of stones hitting the water are really complicated... check this out: https://aapt.scitation.org/doi/10.1119/1.5098910
As we finish up the spit and polish, we hope you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed making it!
